VIRTUSA PAPER ON 21st JUNE

hi friends, on 21st june i attended virtusa campus drive which was a little bit hectic procedure.

there will be 3 rounds in total which comprises of written test,technical interview and hr interview.there may be a gd also if many members got through the written test.

in written test there will be 5 sections---

  1. aptitude
  2. verbal
  3. mental ability
  4. technical
  5. attentive ability

the aptitude and verbal rounds will be easy and mental ability and technical will consume more time.
in attentive ability there will be a big passage.we have to read that passage for 10 min and return back the passage after that a paper consisting of 10 questions will be given. we have to answer that questions which we read from the passage.

for aptitiude its better to prepare rs agarwal and in the technica sections there will be small codes,we have to pick the correct output.the questions will be only from c and ds.

next comes the technical round which was a bit difficult round.
in this round the interviewer first asked about me and my favourate subjects.then he will ask to write a code of his wish like pascal traingle,reverse a string, to print stars in the given order,and programs on linked lists,trees,searching techniques.

after that he will ask questions on operating systems like what is os?,what is paging,fragmentation,scheduling algorithms etc. after completion of technical round its almost the end of the process that is hr interview which was a very easy one.

only thing required is minimum speaking skills,confidence and eye contact. the person who interviews will be very very free and he will be freindly with u.he may also ask puzzles and dont fear even if u dont answer he will just test ur attempt.

VIRTUSA PAPER PATTERN & INTERVIEW On 21st JULY 2006 AT VIJAYAWADA

I am raghava from P.B.Siddhartha college. got thru VIRTUSA coducted at VR.Siddhartha College Vijayawada.

It is very cool yaar....i am very happy, beacuse i got the key for campus selections i.e CONFIDENCE with PATIENCE.

I attended for 4 companies previously and didn't qualify for Written test. But i am still confident and tried and attempted for all, where as my frnds who worried and didn't do the rest of the companies well. so please be confident.


I Round :- Written Test ( conducted by METRIC Track)
It is having 5 phases of paper's just like Psychometric test. it is having very simple questions where we should use our commonsense. dont worry abt the questions they are very easy .

  1. Ability --- synonyms,antonyms, articles, wrong sentence's, paragraph's.
  2. Ability --- aptitude questions from r.s.agarwal (regular)
  3. Mental Ability --- (very very very easy don't get confused) finding out the similar pronunciation words and decimal number's.)
  4. Ability --- questions from C and UNIX (they eat away time ... plz attempt the small questions first .. their main aim is to waste your time .... so they give small questions at last be careful)
  5. Reading Ability --- they give a 3 pages document to read and understand and they take back the papers and give us a question paper of about 10 questions (read only once and very carefully.. because 3 papers in 10 min is tough.... remember the numbers and main key words and main theme of the document )

II Round :- Group Discussion (conducted by the HR Team)

The topics given are very very casual. they just want to test whether every one is having their own idea (it might be a single idea ) and are we able to talk when we are given a chance . please dont copy the idea's .if u are also on the same idea just explain with current affair;s example . . our batch consists of 8 members .we were given a topic called "BRAIN DRAIN" only 2 minutes for preparing and just 10 minutes for the discussion of the topic . 600 seconds for 8 members's .... each member should take only 75 seconds ( 600seconds /8members ) ... so i planned to interrupt into the discussion for 5 times and to talk for 15 seconds each time .

III Round :-Technical Interview(conducted by the HR Team)

This is a bit tough round . The interviewer asked about my Academic background and my interest on subjects . He asked me the subjects i have covered in MCA course schedule and tried to cover all the subjects with simple questions and testing our capability in answering the questions ...asked some live examples for the answers. the session lasted for about 45 minutes. be confident on the subjects you are interested.

IV Round :- HR Interview (conducted by the HR Team)

This is the Easiest Round we have to face. But be careful. Here the Key's to Success are CONFIDENT and COMMUNICATION SKILLS. Be confident of wat u say. the questions are regular like.....

  • hobbies and a small problem on reasoning .......
His main Aim is to understand us by asking questions. so feel free to explore ur self to him in a good way. dont be over confident. Be casual all the time. they ask questions relating to ur answer's after some time ... so that to test whether u are telling truth or not. so be careful.

Try hard and do well for Selections. if u are Rejected dont get Disappointed. try the other company.

  • 1, 2, 3, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 3, ____ What is the nextnumber in the series and he asked the reason also?
  • There are 4 coins, you have to arrange them in a 2rows so that each row should have 3 coins each andreason for that?
  • Find the odd Word out?ALPHA, DELTA, SIGMA, OMEGA
  • Find the odd word out? DEAF, REST , BACK, HELD
  • In Chess Board, how many knights can u arrange sothat no two knights will attack each other?and He explained the problem.. using mathematicalpositions of the knights like (x+1, y), (x+1, y+1)and so on upto 8 points in which way the KNIGHTtravels in the CHESS BOARD?

Analytical Section consists of Vocab. ( pick the odd
one out ) and

some codings like ( ALPHA z coded as BETAH , DELTA z
coded as GAMMA,
then how z
ETA coded ? .. this one .. i have framed it :) ) .
This part z a bit
difficult one.
So, my advice z don't think much about these.

Along with above two categories, there shall be
PUZZLES in this
section.In the
recent paper i attended,i got the following

3.2) THIS CARRIES 15 MARKS

The types of problems such as prob #4 from the section
1, (SATURN+URANUS=PLANETS) are called cryptorithms or
alphabeticalcoding.
Where an alphabet is assigned a code so that the
problem is to be solved using given summation.
Write a program to solve such questions, which prints
the letter and its corresponding digit that satisfies
the given addition.


This is the paper for virtusa
about 450 of us attende the At out of which 43
cleared for the GD.
then they had interviews - very less technical n
more of communication skills.
out of 43 only 22 cleared went for interview.
Finally 11 were shortlisted only 2 from r college
others from nearby colleges.
once u have cleared the AT the selection is very
simple.

in the AT they r only tesitng ur approach so give
proper reasons for the answers. questions r easy.some

C section-3 questions were given but better to attend
2.

1.when a user inputs values, if it is even perform a
divide by 2, else perform n*n-1 and store them in a
sequence.the output must be the largest power of 2 in
the given sequence.

2.write a prog to generate pythagorian triads of the
form a^2+b^2=c^2.eg3,4,6.
the sequence should not repeat by changing the order

1)Tech interview: most students said a lot of tech question were asked.. from C, CPP, DBMS, OS, Data Structures, sorting algortithms.
Simple Rule: BE Confident in wht u say!! else they ask us more details..
Interviewer asked me which all sorting algorithm I know."I said quick bubble insertion slection"
then asked complexity of each.. thts all
Some were asked linked lists.. (no program was asked.. just explain concepts)
then referential integrity, foreign keys, types of sql queires (select, delete etc) etc etc

for me tech was little only! my resume said I have good interests in stock markets. so he asked a lot about that! I answered all of them and then asked 4-5 tech questions.. and about MINI PROJECT was asked..

Then interviewer will ask about ur marks in each sem.. if there is any drop,, he asks why..
for me its was a drop from 92 in 10th to 82% in 12th to 69% in btech! he asked me why.. just admitted I didnt study well .. and said I will score better in coming semester and will make aggragate to 73%.. he asked 3-4 times ARE U CONFIDENT? (like in KBC -BIG B ;)) I said yes! confident! sure!!
he said "if u dont make 73. i wont take u to igate!1 =)) )
then asked me why I want to join i gate..
then asked where u see ur self after 5 years.
then gave me HR form.. and feedback also was given on spot! (my accent was week.. he told to improve it..)

2) HR..
HR interviewer hd nothing new to ask me. she just repeated wht was asked in tech!!
why igate?? dream achievement? tell us about parents etc etc
at last "are u willing to sign a bond for 2 years."
I didnt accept.. still they took me in!


2. Technical Interview: Depends upon the H.R panel members. As i am a ECE student questions were from COMPUTER NETWORKS, DATA STRUCTURES & some C questions. My interview hardly went on for 10 minutes. But, sorry i dont know about the other department, i heard that they are drilling more and more for CSE, IT, MCA. If you are strong enough in your basics then you can easily clear technical.
Total no.of candidates cleared technical: 11

3. HR: Once you clear the technical then you are through your dream company iGATE. Listen the PPT well, because they ask questions from that also. Here they mainly check ur confidence level, communication, how fast you grasp and how fast ur mind works...
Final shortlisted candidates: 11


Technical:

there is technical round that contains 7 persons in separate cabins taking interview at the same time, its ur luck, to which person u go...

Questions asked are from dbms, from aptitude test taken, datstructure, simple flowcharts will be shown and o/p will be asked...

stick to the basics do revise normalizatin and rdbms...

The above round was the elimination round and they will see ur communication skills... they will concentrate on ur apti power.. after that, if u are recommended you have to face HR, it is a mere formality if u look confident and have good communication skills...

SECOND ROUND
GD ws cancelled so it ws only Tech and HR... tech ws diffrnt fo every1.. some were askd jus basics. my technical included qstns on RDBMS, VC++.. my summer training project plus some basic HR qstns.. I ws asked to wait outside and thn one person came and escorted me to a new room..i hd clrd the tech.

THIRD ROUND
This ws HR.. majority of candidates were askd jus basic qstns like describe urself, hobbies!! bt in my case there were puzzles, abt the company, awareness qstns (3 uses of pen othr thn writing!!!duh!!)

I am from ECE group.so i'll tell u wat the interviewer asked me.......
learn C and Data Stuctures well (be prepared to write a program, bcoz the interviewer asked me to write a program without a single syntax or logical error so be careful..), then micro processors (8085,8086), then go thru some basics of communication and digital electronics (if u are a ECE student).......... if u mention anything about ur paper presentations and mini projects in ur resume be ready to explain them clearly.....bcoz he asked me about the papers which i presented in depth and he asked me to explain my mini projects ........if u r done wid all these u r going to clear technical round for sure.....

1st the basic question.... tell me abt u'rself...next u'r strengths and weaknesses.......u'r hobbies....etc,..... wat ever u say, say it confidently and try to be honest....its not a big deal clearing HR round.....but be careful wid tech round....ok . wat ever u speak be loud and clear in gd and personal interview... try to speak positively .. avoid grammar mistakes while u r speaking and be confident.....don't worry its not dat hard.....u can clear them easily....all the best prepare well and do



Next Round Was GD
Made group of 10/11. In some they selected 4 members. But in many they selected only 1 or 2 per group. In min they seleced only two including me. Topic was simple. they wanted every1 to talk. Also they made every1 to talk.So the topics were simple. But always allow others to speak.U should speak well and up to the point, but at the same time u should allow others to speak.Donot make it a fish market. A Part from communication they also want to check that whether u can work in team or not?

3) mobiles vs landlines
4) house wife vs working
5) inda's poor performances in cricket

Next was techncial

Tecnical for me as I am an E&E student, was fully C,C++ and microprocessors. The interviewers were cool.
